Diesel cars are not very popular at US auctions. Trucks and pickups with diesel engines are more commonly purchased there. However, some models still attract interest. Among them is the VW Jetta TDI.
VW Jetta TDI: About the Car
This spacious and comfortable vehicle has seen six generations since its inception. For the US and Canadian markets, the model is released with several gasoline engines, but the diesel version remains just as popular.
The car offers the best value for money in the lower price segment. The diesel engine stands out for its uncompromising reliability and efficiency. A distinctive feature of the car, both in the estate and sedan versions, is its fairly spacious interior.
Most Popular Model Years
At US auctions, the most commonly purchased versions of the VW Jetta TDI are from 2012, 2014 and 2013. The popularity of these particular production years is due to their fairly good specifications at a relatively low price. They also represent the last years of production for the car with a diesel engine. The 2006 model year also enjoys high popularity.
Less popular are the 2015 and 2010 models. The VW Jetta TDI 2005 and 2004 models are purchased three times less often.
The outdated 1.9 engine is practically disappearing in terms of volume.
Most Common Damages for Jetta TDI Purchased at Auctions
Most often, cars are sold at auctions with damages that insurance companies preferred not to restore. The VW Jetta TDI is no exception.
In the vast majority of cases, the diesel "Jetta" is sold with damage to the front part. In second place is the sale of cars with cosmetic defects that emerged from wear and tear and do not require significant restoration costs (for example, minor scratches and dents).
In third and fourth place are damages to the side (most often, the wing) and the rear part of the body.
Less popular are overturned cars, versions for restoration after an accident with damages all over the body, and cars with technical malfunctions.
Top Prices for VW Jetta TDI at US Auctions
The diesel "Jetta" from 2010-2015 can be purchased at US auctions for around $1700. Prices for this car this year ranged from $1.5k in April to $2.6k in July. By the end of the year, the current cost was $1700 in December.
For its price, the VW Jetta TDI is a very reliable and comfortable car, not requiring special costs for maintenance and operation. These virtues give it such high popularity in the US secondary market.
